McCormick mourns the passing of Rev. Eunice Poethig who returned to God on May 25, 2018. She graduated in the class of 1975 and is survived by her husband, Rev. Richard “Dick” Poethig, a former faculty member.

The LRWC Spouse Group began many years ago as an English class for the spouses of international students at McCormick and the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.  We meet each Wednesday and two members bring food to share. Four of our former members are now McCormick students and one returned with her family to Japan, but each year lovely people appear to bless the group.

McCormick's Global Community represents the interests of all international students on McCormick's Student Session.  It organizes and hosts gatherings and supports its members in various other ways.

Each week during the academic year, the LRWC host Global Conversations. These are one hour conversations lead by students, faculty, or special guests on a topic that is global and concerns their community, and by extension our local one. The LRWC offers soup and bread at each conversation and asks for a donation.

The Language Resource and Writing Center (LRWC) is a cooperative program between McCormick and The Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago to support students whose first language is not English. We help students develop skills through reading/writing and listening/speaking instruction. We also seek to provide a rich global and theological context to help ensure that what McCormick international students experience is relevant for their future ministry.

For more than 20 years the Summer Language Institute (SLI) has served as the welcoming point to theological education in the U.S. for MTS and LSTC international students, their spouses and children.  Each year the program includes varied readings and themes, but at its core, the SLI works to create a dialogue between former strangers and between our group and the residents of Chicago’s racial and ethnically eclectic neighborhoods. SLI students encounter not only the challenges that theological study in the U.S.
