We have heard from Alumnus Tom Arthur, who shared that he retired in 2009 in the United Kingdom after twenty some years working with the United Reformed Church through the PCUSA Worldwide Mission program. Tom retired from his ministry at City United Reformed Church in Cardiff, which in his tenure became the only Open and Affirming church (so far) in Wales, and developed an award-winning program called Asylum Justice, which provides pro bono legal support to asylum seekers.

Joe Genau (M.Div., '07) has shared an update with us about a new call in ministry: "I've accepted a position at Children's Hospital of Alabama, in Birmingham, AL. I'm a full-time Staff Chaplain, primarly working with Sickle Cell Anemia patients and families as well as Spanish-speaking patients and families." We give thanks for Joe's committment to hospital chaplain minsitry and pray that God would move through him as he provides spiritual care and support for families and patients.

Many first-time pastors face a steep learning curve as they enter their first parish. Feelings of being overwhelmed can be compounded by a deep sense of isolation. The First Parish Project aims to address these realities among the most vulnerable of these: pastors under 35 years of age, serving in their first full-time pastorate and in chuches with small membership.
