McCormick mourns the passing of Rev. Eunice Poethig who returned to God on May 25, 2018. She graduated in the class of 1975 and is survived by her husband, Rev. Richard “Dick” Poethig, a former faculty member.

Thirty years ago, James MacGregor Burns won both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for a volume titled, simply, Leadership. Through five hundred pages, Burns outlined the theory and practice of transformational leadership that would, he wrote, “empower leaders to demonstrate genuine moral leadership.”
Most of my friends didn’t understand why I wanted to go to seminary. To them, seminary was a place where aspiring ministers go to be indoctrinated and then locked within the four walls of the church for prayers, bible, and preaching – with little or no contact with the outside world
