Community
First Presbyterian Church is regional congregation with members from many of the surrounding suburban communities. We have approximately 400 members and strive for a wide range of programming. Our congregation is a regional one and has members from 25-30 surrounding communities. The congregation is mostly Caucasian, although we do see a growing number of Cameroonians in our midst.

Mission Statement
We have felt God’s love and are warmed by its radiance. Being human, we feel ourselves worthy of God’s love. Through Jesus Christ we understand that by grace, we are redeemed. In response we,

SEEK TO DISCERN AND FOLLOW THE WILL OF GOD.
First and foremost we feel called to enter into a personal relationship with God. Secondly, we feel called to be in community with other Christians. As a community of Christian Presbyterians, we gather in Chicago Heights to seek and act upon God’s will for us.

COME TOGETHER TO WORSHIP GOD TO PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST, AND TO EXPERIENCE FELLOWSHIP THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT.
We will do so with joy and conviction, making the gospel attractive to church and community at large.  We will emphasize the revelation of God through Scripture and the witness of the Reformed faith as they provide guidance for daily living.

EDUCATE ALL AGES IN CHRISTIAN FAITH.
We will strive to nurture everyone, placing special attention on youth and young adult education, mission and fellowship.

WORK TO MEET THE NEEDS OF GOD’S PEOPLE.
We will share our resources and talents with others, so that those in our community and in the world might be served.  We will foster an atmosphere that will nurture a joyful fellowship and strive to support others and bring God’s comfort to all.

EMBRACE AND CELEBRATE DIVERSITY.
We welcome people of all backgrounds, ages and races into our fellowship so that together we may strive to be active and enthusiastic in worship, ministries, mission and fellowship of the church.  We value relationships with other Christian churches, striving to work together to serve all people and build the church universal.

Our focus is to transform lives, inspiring believers to lead truly Christ-centered live.

Education
• Seminary degrees: University of Dubuque (M.Div), McCormick (D.Min.)
• Intern Supervisory for Summer Staff (1982-1999)
• Seminary Intern Supervisor for Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (1996, 1997)

"My style of supervision is conversation with our Interns. I am happy to see innovation, prayerfully informed, and delight in the successes of our Interns. I like to plan carefully and evaluate just as carefully. We are very open and used to trying new things here at First Presbyterian, as the Lord leads. My current focus in continuing education revolves around the concept of "pilgrimage" and how God leads us to new places as we seek God."
