Housing

A part of the rich community life at McCormick is created by students and their families living together in McCormick Residential Facilities. Our two residential buildings, which house around half of McCormick masters students, are within walking distance of McCormick's offices, classrooms and library, as well as the neighborhood's other libraries, parks and schools. In the summer of 2000, McCormick completed the renovation of both of these buildings.

The residences are located in the neighborhood of Hyde Park, which is located on Lake Michigan and seven miles south of downtown Chicago. Hyde Park is home to 43,000 people and has a history of social activism, political leadership, and community life and is also the site of renowned museums and architectural landmarks. The area was settled in the 1850s as an elegant suburb and is among the most desirable places to live in the City of Chicago.

The 1400 Building is located at 1400 E. 57th Street. The 1400 Building is a seven-story elevator building. It has carpeted two and three bedroom apartments with central heat and air conditioning. The 1400 building has a parking lot and a beautiful large terrace that goes all the way around the 1400 building where many of the community events take place.

The Kimbark Building is located at 5535-39 S. Kimbark Avenue. The Kimbark Building is a three story walk-up building. It has one and two bedroom apartments with beautiful hardwood floors and ceiling fans. Apartments have hot water radiant heating and one window air conditioner unit per apartment. Each section has a small patio for grilling.

Appliances include a self cleaning gas range, refrigerator, and a microwave in both residential buildings. All utilities, including high-speed Internet access, monthly telephone service, local calls, and voicemail, are included in the rent.

Shared Apartments
