LPPC has active and committed lay leadership and a 6 person staff consisting of pastor, 4 parish associates, seminary assistant, choir director, organist, secretary & custodian. LPPC focuses its corporate life around the Sunday worship service, which involves active congregational participation, reflective preaching and inclusive expressions of humanity, God and God's activity. The church is a warm, friendly congregation, which considers sharing, caring, and extending support to one another, essential aspects of the Christian community. It adopted an affirmation of ministry (1990) which affirms celebration of corporate worship which reflects the reformed and reforming tradition of Christian faith; creation of community which celebrates the diversity of all persons with respect for each one's gifts and convictions; outreach which invites neighbors to join our journey of faith and to share as partners in God's new creation; participation in mission by responding to the suffering and needs of oppressed and marginalized people, and working toward justice and the equitable distribution of wealth and resources.
LPPC is located in a dense residential area of 57,000 people with a high proportion of single young adults. Several hundred street people live in the park itself. Lincoln Park is a predominantly white, middle to upper-middle class community, with pockets of African-Americans and Hispanics, and a higher than average concentration of gay and lesbian persons. It is the home of DePaul University, five hospitals, five senior citizen housing projects, several museums, a zoo, a conservatory, parks, beaches, bike paths, and a large number of shops, restaurants, theaters, and pubs.
