Local Opportunities and Resources

McCormick is located close to the shore of Lake Michigan, in the Hyde Park neighborhood, 6 1/2 miles south of downtown Chicago.

It is also home to the University of Chicago and its divinity school, Chicago Theological Seminary, The Catholic Theological Union, The Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago and Meadville-Lombard Seminary.

Hyde Park has tree-lined streets, numerous restaurants in all price ranges, interesting small shops, and is the Chicago home of President Barack Obama and former senator Carol Mosely-Braun. Hyde Park also has a fascinating history as home to such notables as Muhammad Ali, and Marshall Field.

The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Robie House is close to the The University of Chicago campus, and offers daily tours. Within walking distance are the famed Museum of Science and Industry, as well as splendid small museums on the University of Chicago campus, such as the Oriental Institute (ancient Near East), and the Smart Museum of Art. In fact, the University of Chicago offers a rich array of theatre, film and dance at reasonable prices for students. U. of C. also opens its field house and swimming pool to the McCormick community for nominal fees.
