We're pulling together the McCormick diaspora for connection and continuing education. Join us in 2013!
We've planned several McCormick in Motion experiences for 2013-2014! We hope there's one near you! We'll be opening registration for these events in early October but go ahead and mark your calendars now!
McCormick in Motion (MiM) is a series of regional alumni/ae gatherings around the country that serve as an opportunity for alums and friends to re-connect with one another and to hear more personally what is happening today at McCormick through presentations by a member of our faculty or staff.
Chicago, IL. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Dr. Stephen Haynes will be lecturing on the "Witness of Lives - Through Writing and Conversation in Recognition of 50th Anniversary of Civil Rights Movement". Dr. Haynes is the author of The Last Segregated Hour: the Memphis Kneel-Ins and the Campaign for Southern Church Segregation. This event will be held in conjunction with the Pilgrimage in Faithfulness class. Plenary from 5:00 - 6:15 p.m.; Reception/Book Signing from 6:15 - 7:00 p.m.
Lisle, IL. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.
The Rev. Dr. Sharon Ellis-Davis and the Rev. Dr. James Miller (D. Min. '92) will discuss "Pastoral Care for the Hurting (in time for the holidays)". This event will be held at the DuPage AME Church, 4300 Yackley Ave., Lisle, IL 60532. Additional details to come.
Baltimore, MD. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, 11:15 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Frank Yamada, Brad Braxton, in conversation with other McCormick faculty will discuss "The State of Theological Education: Perspectives of the Academy and the Church." The event is hosted at The Open Church, by Rev. Dr. Brad Braxton, Pastor. 5010 Briarclift Road, Baltimore, MD 21229.
This event is during the SBL Conference. Other faculty scheduled to be in attendance: Sarah Tanzer, Anna Case Winters, Ted Hiebert, Paula Hiebert, and Jeff Japinga (depending on their SBL conference schedules).
Coming up in 2014! we're working on events to be schedule in San Jose, CA, during the APCE conference in February, and one in Champaign, Urbana, IL, during March. Stay tuned!
The MiM event can be held in a location near you, and can include:
- Fellowship and worship
- A lecture by one of McCormick’s illustrious professors
- Small group discussions
- A reception or meal
You can help us determine the cities we will visit this year! Factors being considered include:
- The concentration of interested alumni in a given area/city
- The availability of a host church or other venue
- The willingness of alumni or friends of McCormick to assist with local publicity

Who Should Come
While these gatherings are primarily for McCormick Alums, we welcome anyone interested in attending. We'd love for you to spread the word at your Presbytery meetings and local clergy groups. If you know someone who might be interested in one of McCormick's degree or certificate programs, invite them as well!
All gatherings require a minimum registration of 12 people, with a maximum of 30.
