Established January 1886 Normal Park Baptist Church of Chicago is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA and the National Baptist Convention, USA. Its mission is to serve as a living witness to the life-changing message of God as it has been revealed through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, this purpose is accomplished through a variety of ministries and programs that seek to nurture Christian Discipleship and create ongoing Community Partnerships. Organized in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Normal Park was originally a White congregation, but made national news in 1957 as Time Magazine reported its merger with the Covenant Baptist Church, a Black congregation, which was a first of its kind. Over the following decades, the church remained integrated, but developed to predominantly African American. In 2006 Normal Park relocated to the historic community of Rosemoor, on the far south side of Chicago. Currently, there are approximately 100 members.
Normal Park presents a unique chance to serve in “hands on” ministry in an urban setting. Seminarians will be engaged in a range of Learning/Serving Opportunities with both pastoral staff and lay leadership, including preaching, pastoral care, worship planning and leadership, church administration, adult/youth education, and community mission and outreach.
Field Placement students will work directly with Dr. Gregory S. Hardaway, Senior Pastor, and Rev. Gabriel S. Hardaway, Assistant Pastor/Church Administrator. Both are alumni of McCormick Theological Seminary.
