Position Description:
The Chaplain Intern training program at Presbyterian Homes was originally established in 1983. Each year, five chaplain interns work together as a team. They learn from each other as well as from the supervising chaplains. Participants learn about ministry with older adults in a special Monday morning colloquium where stimulating speakers take turns teaching. There is an opportunity for dialogue with medical doctors, psychiatrists, social workers, chaplains and administrators. Chaplain interns visit residents, take turns preaching ,and help to plan and lead worship services. Students have the opportunity to participate in psychiatric consults, medical meetings, and an Ethics Committee. The experience is good preparation for future work in chaplaincy or local parish ministry. The program has received consistently high marks from seminarians as a supportive and challenging environment in which to learn ministry skills.
The supervising chaplains are Reverend Janet Aldrich and Dr. Frank Baldwin.
Presbyterian Homes is located about a mile off the Edens Expressway just north of the city. The campus is also accessible with public transportation.
