B 300 TEXTBOOKS AND REQUIRED MATERIALS

The books we will ask you to buy for this course include a Study Bible based on a different translation from the translation in the Bible you already own and are using now, and a Gospel Parallels.  But we want to advise you at the beginning of the course how to buy a Study Bible and a Gospel Parallels that best meet your needs; so we’d like to ask you to wait to buy these until the second week of the course.

In addition to the Study Bible and Gospel Parallels, there are two required texts:

  • Habel, Norman. Literary Criticism of the Old Testament. Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1971.
  • Harrington, Daniel. Interpreting the New Testament. Collegeville, MN: The Liturgical Press, 1990.

Other than these two textbooks, the required readings for the course will be distributed as handouts in class on a weekly basis (the week before the reading is due).  You will need to purchase a three ring binder for the collected IBS readings.  These readings will also be posted on the course website on Moodle.  There will be a $10.00 charge for these handouts.  We intend this collection of readings and handouts to be a sourcebook on biblical interpretation that you will be able to use in other biblical courses at McCormick and in your continuing study of the Bible in your ministry.

You will be expected to bring Bibles, Study Bibles, Gospel Parallels and the binder of readings with you to every class session.
