Community Description:

The foremost purpose of the Victory Apostolic Church is to glorify God who created all things for his glory and honor. We are to glorify God, the father, in the person of Jesus Christ, his son, whom he has appointed heir of all things. For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

We believe that public worship is essential to worshipping God in spirit and in truth. Public worship provides the opportunity for believers to assemble together in the house of the Lord. Expressions of public worship include: adoration, confession, thanksgiving, praise, and supplication. Adoration is the spontaneous yearning of the heart to worship, honor, magnify, and bless God. Supplication is a humble request, prayer or petition. Through worship, we acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit within us and in the worship service. The Holy Spirit anoints every person who participates in expressing worship to God during the worship service. The preacher is especially anointed by the Holy Spirit because he is sent by God to declare God’s word. Through preaching, the Holy Spirit convicts sinners; brings them to a place of repentance; and allows those persons to receive the truth of the gospel message according to the meaning of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This repentance is made known publicly through water baptism in Jesus’ name, and is known within the heart when the Holy Spirit is received. The Holy Spirit empowers the believer to press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit also empowers a person to live a Godly life. It is profitable to live a Godly life in this world and the world which is to come.

Practicing good works is essential if a believer’s light is to shine and draw unbelievers to Jesus Christ. Therefore, we provide financial and moral support to the poor; visit and pray for the sick; bring the gospel to those in prison; and help to mend those affected by broken relationships and misdirected lives. We seek to build up our families, communities, and society in general, which are all in need of spiritual guidance. To carry out these purposes we formed ministries, auxiliaries, departments, and committees. We believe that God’s grace is sufficient to carry out these purposes. We thank God for the victory that is assured in Christ Jesus, who always causes us to triumph.

We are located in Chicago’s south suburbs and are a church of over 3,000 members. Our membership reflects the demographics of the south suburbs with 98% African-Americans. Our program priorities are our mature youth, men, women, and small groups.
