9am-1pm: Education and Service Event

University Church | 5655 South University Avenue, Chicago

WHAT: Staff from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant Rights and Refugees and Uniting America Fellows will lead discussion on ICIRR’s newest integration and volunteerism initiative called Uniting America. Presentation will include questions and answer portion followed by “call to action” and “next steps” proposals.

PURPOSE: Inform members of the MTS community and its broader network of faith communities about Uniting America local activities aimed at building cross-community relationships between immigrants and their native-born neighbors in Chicago and its suburbs. MTS and its constituent communities will be given a chance to get involved in a community based partnership aimed at addressing issues in immigration and cultural conflict at a personal level through one-on-one volunteer opportunities. By connecting to Uniting America project MTS community can become part of national grass-roots justice and reconciliation efforts to promote mutual respect and cooperation between foreign-born and U.S.-born Americans.

9:30-11:15am: Introductions & Panel Discussion, moderated by the Rev. Dr. Frank M. Yamada

       Katherine Rivera, Uniting America Fellow at Asian American Institute in Chicago (North Suburbs) 
       Megan Benham, Uniting America Fellow at Council of Islamic Organization of Greater Chicago in Chicago (West Suburbs) 
11:15am-12pm: ICIRR Presentation on "Uniting America"
       Including comments from site supervisor and/or volunteer
       Information about how to get involved will be available
12-1pm: Lunch – To ensure we have enough food, please RSVP.

5:30pm to 7:30pm: Partners in the Vision Benefit Dinner

6:00pm to 7:30pm: Friends and Family Buffet Dinner

8:00pm to 9:30pm: "The View from 2040: The Futures of Theological Education" - A Panel Discussion

Augustana Chapel, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago | 1100 E. 55th Street, Chicago, IL 60615

Panelists will include:
     The Rev. Dr. Alice Hunt, President of Chicago Theological Seminary
     The Rev. Dr. Brad Braxton, Distinguished Visiting Professor at McCormick Theological Seminary
     Dr. Kwok Pui Lan, Professor of Christian Theology and Spirituality, Episcopal Divinity School, and President of the American Academy of Religion
     The Rev. José F. Morales Jr., Regional Minister in the Central Rocky Mountain Region of the Disciples of Christ
