PURPOSE: With the Associate Minister for Faith Formation—and in collaboration with the Children’s Education Ministry—develop and implement a dynamic program of religious education that contributes to the spiritual formation and growth of children from birth to 8th grade.

REPORTING TO: Associate Minister for Faith Formation

HOURS:  20 hours per week

COMPENSATION: $15/hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Personal faith in God through Christ, and a passion for serving children and families
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and working with children
  • Commitment to spiritual development, religious education, and emotional health of children and families
  • Knowledge of child development, classroom management, and educational methodology
  • Working knowledge of the Bible
  • Ability to identify and synthesize creative curriculum activities for children
  • Competence in computer and technology usage—both for identifying new children’s resources, and for communicating with families, church, and surrounding community
  • Dedication to personal faith formation and professional growth as an educator
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee Sunday morning education programs for children from birth to 8th grade
  • Identify and implement creative, age-appropriate curriculum for children
  • Recruit, train, coordinate, and provide ongoing support to teachers and classroom facilitators
  • Manage set-up and maintenance of classrooms and equipment; ensure adequate supplies are ready and available for teachers and classroom leaders
  • Communicate regularly with families, Associate Minister, and Christian Education Ministry to assess ongoing needs and identify areas for potential growth
  • Manage volunteer and paid Nursery staff on Sunday mornings; coordinate supplies and maintenance
  • Collaborate with Children Education Ministry and Outreach Ministries to provide outreach opportunities for children and families
  • Work with Christian Education Ministry and the Associate Minister to host special events for children and families, such as:
  • Rally Sunday, Fall Festival, Advent Festival, Christmas Pageant, Easter Eggstravaganza, Teacher Appreciation, Children’s Sunday, Vacation Bible School, etc.
  • Coordinate mailings, calendar, and office-oriented business with FCC secretarial staff; provide relevant written material for bulletins, newsletter, and eblasts; arrange special communication pieces as needed
  • Receive, count, and record Sunday School offering
  • Maintain Children’s Education accounts, registration files, and attendance records
  • Provide staff leadership and support to the Christian Education Ministry in collaboration with Associate Minister
  • Serve as a resource to Membership Ministry and staff regarding new and returning visitors in Sunday School program
  • Communicate with Associate Minister about pastoral concerns
