JOB TITLE: Director of Youth Ministry

JOB SUMMARY
This position works collaboratively with the Youth Ministry Advisory Committee and other adult volunteers to organize an enriching Christian program for youth from middle school through high school.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Senior Pastor and works collaboratively with the Youth Ministry Advisory Committee.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plays a leadership role in planning the program with significant input from youth and adults who are part of Pilgrim Church’s faith community
- Lead the process and coordinate resources, including adult volunteers, for implementing the youth program
- Plan and lead meetings with Middle School and High School Youth (approximately two meetings per month for each group)
- Facilitate communication among program participants, adult volunteers and Youth Ministry Advisory Committee.
- Obtain, maintain, and distribute supplies
- Participate in planning and conducting youth led worship in the spring (and other times as appropriate)
- Provide necessary communication to parents regarding programmatic details and/or individual participant concerns
- Keep the congregation informed about Youth Ministry activities through Tidings articles, announcements during worship, and other methods as needed
- Promote the Youth Ministry program and help welcome new youth and families into our midst
- Attend worship and fellowship hour every Sunday
- Other appropriate duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Training or experience in Christian formation
- High school education required with college degree preferred
- Authentically enjoys youth and working with youth in groups
- Computer skills, including word processing and e-mail competency
- Ability to organize work and work space
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of youth development sufficient for creating appropriate programming
- Good people skills and an ability to function as part of a team
- Experience with special needs youth helpful
- Ability to pass a background and security screening
This position requires energy and enthusiasm as well the ability to work with both youth and adults.
This position is active from August 16 through June 15 and the candidate is asked to work 12 hours each week during that period of time. There is a two month hiatus in the summer. This is a permanent position. *** Still seeking applications as of September 1, 2011. ***
