Faith Constituent Organizer Internship
Campaign for Better Health Care

 The internship is designed to help our Faith Caucus team with outreach in the community and working on annual events. It will take place in our Chicago office. A more detailed description is also attached. The time frame could be for Fall 2011 or Spring 2012. If you are interested please contact lleon@cbhconline.org with your resume.

As a Faith Constituent Organizer, you will work directly with Director of Faith Initiatives and the Faith Caucus Steering Committee. Under the guidance of staff, interns will work on a wide range of projects aimed at securing accessible, affordable, and quality health care for all.

Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to campaigns in the following ways:

  • Engage in advocacy efforts with people of faith, congregations, and faith based organizations, especially low-income community members, and communities of color, in coalition with other organizations and groups
  • Drafting op-eds, spiritual and theological reflection, bulletins, letters, Faith Caucus membership packets, press releases and other faith based advocacy materials
  • Assisting in creating listservs and database maintenance
  • Conduct outreach to congregations and elected officials
  • Organize prayer breakfasts, education forums and public hearings
  • Assist in grant writing and reporting
  • Participate in community organizing efforts to engage community members, such as door-knocking, street outreach, one-on-one meetings
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and facilitating regular meetings of faith leaders
  • Help engage in leadership development to empower community members to take leadership on campaigns
  • Conduct educational activities for people of faith to inform them of issues that are impacting consumers across Illinois
  • Use a variety of media sources to connect with local public including web, radio, newspaper, newsletters, television, etc
  • Conduct other clerical and office duties as needed

DETAILS OF INTERNSHIP:

  • Supervision: Interns will be supervised by the Director of Faith Initiatives
  • Compensation: While internships are not paid positions, academic credit can be arranged
  • Hours: Interns are expected to work part-time (at least 8 hours) during the week

Qualification Requirements:

  • Proficient computer usage is a must. Experience with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint.  Constant Contact, e-mail, or social media a plus
  • Applicants with background in communications
  • Prior experience in community involvement projects
  • Public speaking experience is a plus
