First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg Job Description
First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg
206 College Street
Warrensburg, MO 64093
Position:
Solo Pastor
Major Responsibilities:
Along with attending to the requisite duties of a solo pastor in a 190-member congregation, she/he will need to foster congregational revitalization and growth. Over time, several factors contributed to waning attendance at worship, shrinking membership rolls, a failure to attract younger families with children, and a steady increase in the average age of the congregation. FPC remains active, vital, and committed to openness, Presbyterian practice and mission, but some changes will be needed.
The possibilities include (1) a more effective evangelism program, (2) initiatives for youth and college students (3) greater emphasis on spiritual development, (4) new mission projects, and (5) a blended worship service that combines the familiar Presbyterian style with contemporary forms of expression. There will be challenges for sure, but so too will there be opportunities for successful new ministries. Warrensburg is a growing community sustained by the presence of a mid-sized university and a nearby Air Force base. It retains the ambiance of a small town, but its close proximity to Kansas City provides easy access to the attractions of a major metropolitan center. The University of Central Missouri is a thriving institution that has been, and likely will continue to be, important in the life of FPC. Whatever course it chooses to follow, FPC will need skillful, imaginative, and caring pastoral guidance.
Description of characteristics and qualifications:
Dynamic and inspirational preacher and teacher
Empowering leader and facilitator
Organizational abilities and administrative experience
Loving and caring with a positive outlook and sense of humor
Commitment to pastoral care, visitation, and youth ministry
