Our Calling: We are equipping the Church for the life of faith.
Our Committment: Relying on the grace found in Jesus Christ, we glorify and enjoy God in all things. Holding closely to the truth of God’s Word, we ask with courage difficult questions of our faith and life. Loved by God, we show compassion respecting each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Guided by Christ’s commands, We strive to love God, to love our neighbor and to make disciples.
We are looking for a pastor who has an appealing personality, who is at ease with and can relate to all ages. He/she should be dedicated to all aspects of his/her ministry. We want a pastor who has the ability to deliver spiritually and Biblically based sermons which leave people looking forward to the next sermon. The pastor should know how to prioritize responsibilities in his/her work ethics and be willing to work harmoniously with other staff members. We want someone who is caring, patient, articulate and interested in visiting members; someone who is open to the leadership of the Holy Spirit and who expresses the joy, humor and delight of life. The pastor will be expected to be of good character and excellent repute, manifesting our Lord's love, both in and out of the church, by example of his/her own life.
Being equipped with God's word, our vision is to share His Word and His love, wherever we are, and to serve as He commands us. As we serve in our own church, we provide Sunday School classes for all ages, Bible study classes, monthly women's meetings, a church choir, Confirmation classes, funds to send members to summer camps and conferences, ministry to those who are homebound, Vacation Bible School, goodie boxes to our military and college members, Acolytes and liturgists for every Sunday worship service, and monthly social activities which include a Fourth of July social, a special Halloween night, and small group dinners. We hold special services for Christmas Eve, Lent, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, and even have a casual Sunday celebration. We publish a weekly Online newsletter and a church directory. Our vision also expands beyond First Presbyterian Church's beautiful walls. We love God's Word, and therefore, reach out to the community through our ministries and through community organizations. Because we are a very active congregation in service, we believe and demonstrate Matthew 25:40, "Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me".
Guided by Christ's commands, we are called to reach out in God's love to the changing community by participating, as a church, in several outreach ministries and, individually, in community organizations. We are members of Lions Club, Rotary Club, Yamparika Club, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire and other Boards. We are former mayors, farmers, ranchers, bankers, doctors, teachers, educators, counselors, photographers, musicians, nurses, business owners, landscapers, laborers, elderly, and indigent. We are where the community is. As a church, our Mission Team oversees a "Cupboard by Grace" food pantry. Monthly, we serve lunch to the high school students. Our church sponsors a Boy Scout Pack and Troop. The women knit "Prayer Shawls" to give comfort to the ill and hurting. We give college scholarships to help those wishing to pursue an education. We give scholarships for summer camps and conferences. We support financially the United Samaritan Services of Vernon, and provide scarves, mittens and gloves for them at Christmas. We provide Birthday cakes for the patients of North Texas State Hospital. We hold music recitals and concerts in our sanctuary. Our choir director teaches dulcimer and other music lessons to young and old in the community, and they perform regularly. We assist with disaster relief and take mission trips. We assist with indigent needs when the need arises. We truly believe in "feeding His sheep".
