In Memoriam: Lisa Armstrong

Lisa died suddenly in hospital early in the morning of May 9, 2013. She had been taken to the hospital after falling ill at the graduating women’s dinner on Wednesday night.

Lisa had completed her academic work at McCormick in October 2012 and was awarded an M.T.S. degree; she was looking forward to walking in Commencement this Saturday to receive her diploma, and excited that both her father and brother would be there.

According to her advisor Ken Sawyer, Lisa was raised in Chicago, and a graduate of the University of Chicago, She had worshiped at Crerar Presbyterian Church and Covenant United Church of Christ. At the time of her death she was an active member of Fourth Presbyterian Church and had served as a member and co-chair of the church’s multi-cultural committee. Ken said that “her commitment to justice and to pastoral care were evident in all her work. Those who were blessed to work very closely with her in her degree program observed her courage in struggling with health challenges, her graced joy in her work, and her determination to be faithful in responding to the needs of those around her.”

The McCormick community "weeps with those who weep".
