In Memoriam: Rev. Dr. Herman W. Nodine
The Rev. Dr. Herman Walker Nodine, 85, of Rutherfordton, N.C. passed away, Tuesday morning, June 17, 2014 in the Charles George VA Medical Center, Ashville, N.C.
Born in Spartanburg County, S.C., he was the son of the late Andrew Joseph and Elizabeth Jones Nodine. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1946 and served for seven years during the Korean Conflict. Although he lost his eyesight during his military service, he achieved many educational accomplishments.
Rev. Nodine graduated from North Greenville Junior College receiving an Associate of Arts Degree, graduated from Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree, earned his Bachelor of Divinity Degree form Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, N.C. and received his Doctorate of Ministry Degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL.
Rev. Dr. Nodine entered the Christian Ministry in 1959. He retired as a Presbyterian Minister and after retirement he pastored Rock Springs Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert, James and Joe Nodine; six sisters, Margaret Gowan, Era Barnette, Pauline Erskine, Dorothy, Myrtle and Ruth Nodine. Surviving is his wife of 15 years, Jean Kelly Nodine; two sons, Billy Nodine (Rosanna) and Charles Nodine; two daughters, Melinda Nodine and Melissa Nodine Causby (Brad); two step sons, Steve Willis and John Willis; four step-daughters, Paula Welch, Beth McDaniel, Hope Willis and Jennifer DeHart; three sisters, Frances Phillips, Nancy Burrell and Faye Page. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Walker Nodine, Brian Revis, Ethan Causby, Katherine Causby and Simon DeHart; two great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Tucker Revis.
