In Memoriam: Rev. Dr. Leon Finney, Jr.


Rev. Dr. Leon Finney, Jr., age 82 of Chicago, Illinois passed away Friday, September 4, 2020.  Rev. Dr. Finney, Jr. was the pastor and founder of the Metropolitan Apostolic Community Church of Christ in Bronzeville. He was a double-alum of McCormick and the Distinguished Alum in 2016. He was also one of the primary architects, drivers and fundraisers of the African American Leadership Program (AALP) at McCormick in the 1990’s. In that role, he was also a professor in and Executive Director of the program. 

President David Crawford of McCormick shares these words, “His transformative work and his service to McCormick left an indelible mark. I know you will join me in keeping the Finney family and the congregation at Metropolitan Apostolic Community Church in your prayers. We give God thanks for Doc Finney, for his steadfast love and support of McCormick, and for life everlasting.” 

In 2016, Rev. Dr. Leon Finney, Jr. received the Distinguished Alumnus award from McCormick Theological Seminary.
