WHAT: Staff from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant Rights and Refugees [1] and Uniting America Fellows will lead discussion on ICIRR’s newest integration and volunteerism initiative called Uniting America. Presentation will include questions and answer portion followed by “call to action” and “next steps” proposals.
PURPOSE: Inform members of the MTS community and its broader network of faith communities about Uniting America local activities aimed at building cross-community relationships between immigrants and their native-born neighbors in Chicago and its suburbs. MTS and its constituent communities will be given a chance to get involved in a community based partnership aimed at addressing issues in immigration and cultural conflict at a personal level through one-on-one volunteer opportunities. By connecting to Uniting America project MTS community can become part of national grass-roots justice and reconciliation efforts to promote mutual respect and cooperation between foreign-born and U.S.-born Americans.
