McCormick Theological Seminary’s Center for the Study of Latin@ Theology and Ministry presents “Immigration, Deportation, and Mission,” a day-long conference on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at New Life Family Center, 2910 N. Central Avenue in Chicago from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
This conference features six workshops; three in the morning and three in the afternoon.
The morning workshops will be presented from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM; the three sessions include:
- “Comprehensive Immigration Reform, Pastoral Care and More!” presented by Ms. Marcela Hernandez, Outreach Organizer for the Chicago New Sanctuary Coalition;
- “Pastoral Care with the Immigrant Family,” presented by Rev. Erwin Carrera, Pastor of New Life Family Center;
- “Legal Resources for Congregations,” presented by Attorney Julissa Ruiz.
The afternoon sessions will be presented from 1:15 PM to 2:30 PM; the three sessions include:
- “How to Respond if a Loved One is Detained,” presented by Rev. Sara Wohlleb, Congregational Coordinator of the Chicago New Sanctuary Coalition, Chicago Religious Leadership Network (CRLN);
- “Access to Health and Social Services,” presented by Ms. Luvia Quinones, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR); and
- “The Role of the Church Within a Model of Economic Support to Immigrant Families,” presented by Mr. Omar Lopez, CALOR, a nonprofit organization that helps people with disabilities.
