Founded January 19, 1891.
Morgan Park Presbyterian Church is a 75 member church and part of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Our Mission statement is “Committed to Christ, diversity and mission. Preparing people for a relationship with God, one another and the community. Sharing the word through scripture, worship and fellowship.”
Our program priorities are Sunday worship, Wednesday Bible study, children and family ministries and community outreach. Music is important to our congregation, on Sundays we have a blend of traditional, gospel and contemporary music. We also have several special concerts during the year. We hold a free community meal monthly and several other outreach activities throughout the year.
Morgan Park Presbyterian Church is located in the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood. The demographics of our congregation mirror those of our neighborhood--we are approximately 60% African American and 40% European American.
There is the opportunity to participate in worship leadership on a weekly basis and to preach 4-5 times during an internship. An interest in leading the weekly youth group is desirable. There are opportunities to lead adult Bible study and other classes, visit congregation members, perform community outreach and plan special worship services or forums. The congregation enjoys having interns and encourages them to explore their ministry interests.
Morgan Park Presbyterian Church can be reached from Hyde Park by taking the Red Line to 95th Street and then transferring to the 111th Street Bus. There is also a Metra station right across from the church. It is an easy drive by taking the Dan Ryan Expressway to I57, then exiting at 111th Street.
