LEAD will take place on Saturday, March 6th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights
By the Rev. Grayson Van Camp, Director of Alumni/ae Relations
For the past three years, McCormick Theological Seminary and Chicago Presbytery have partnered to present LEAD, an annual Leadership, Education and Development event for pastors, Sunday School teachers, church musicians, youth workers, mission workers, church elders, deacons, trustees and church members.
The first Saturday in March in Chicagoland is indeed “in the bleak mid-winter” so aptly described in the beloved hymn of the same name. But for the last three years, chilly weather has not daunted the spirits of several hundred clergy and laypersons who have gathered at the annual LEAD Event to worship together, enhance their skills and revitalize their various ministries within the church. This year, LEAD’s focus is “Educating the Diverse Church,” and the keynote speaker is Rev. Dr. Rhashell Hunter (Class of 1994, 2002), Director of Racial Ethnic and Women’s Ministries/Presbyterian Women for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Dr. Hunter will also teach a workshop, “Growing Christ’s Church Deep and Wide.”
In total, more than 30 workshops will be offered, including; “Exploring Ways Adults Learn,” “Money Matters for Church Leaders,” Managing Conflict for Healthy Relationships,” “Reading the Bible with Children and Youth,” “Enlivening Congregational Singing,” “Meeting Jesus in our Pantries and Shelters,” “Embracing Technology for Ministry,” and others on a wide range of topics. Each participant will have the opportunity to take two workshops at LEAD.
Although L.E.A.D. is considered to be the area’s premiere Presbyterian training event, attendance is open to members of other denominations. The LEAD Planning Team strives to make sure there is something for everyone at LEAD – and it strives to make LEAD affordable.
Registration is $15 which includes both lunch and a continental breakfast. A bookstore and a Presbytery resource area will also be offered. Register online today!
