Kenneth Sawyer first joined the McCormick community in 1980 as a staff member of the JKM Library. He began teaching as an adjunct instructor 1988, and was appointed to the regular faculty in 1993.

Ken received the Ph.D. in the History of Christianity from the University of Chicago Divinity School. His dissertation is titled "’Secret Walkings Before the Lord’: The Devotional Theology of Increase Mather, 1639-1723." Ken's teaching and research focus upon Reformation topics, Anglo-American Reformed groups, Puritanism and New School and Old School Presbyterianism, as well as issues of gender and power in the history of Christianity. He has published articles on a range of topics, from early Christian history in Egypt, contemporary multiculturalisms, and the uses of technology in theological education. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and frequently teaches adult education classes throughout the Chicago area. He is a veteran teacher of Sunday school for four-year-olds. Ken is married to Patricia Cloud, and they have three adult daughters: Elisabeth, Jane, and Anna.
