Long Live LRWC: A Global Round-Table Indeed

The Language Resource and Writing Centre (LRWC), located on 3rd floor of the LSTC building, is a conducive and safe space to many students, especially the International students. In the LRWC, students interact freely and enjoy a conversation, enjoy a meal together, play indoor games like ping pong and darts, print and copy, take a cup of tea or coffee, and study as well. To be frank with you, LRWC is one of my favorite places and I spend most of my time there.

Being a global space, the LRWC often hosts organized global conversations. Prior to the pandemic, the conversations usually happened every Monday at noon for many years, with lentil soup and pita bread accompanying the conversations. Thankfully, the conversations are back though at a revised frequency and day.

On September 23 2022, the LRWC hosted a global conversation that focused on the current political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka. The conversation was led by our McCormick colleagues from Sri Lanka: Rajitha De Mel, Nishantha Gunasekara, Hasitha Fernando, and Luckmal Panditharathna who is McCormick alumni. They shared with us the horrible and heartbreaking stories that have been occasioned by the unrest in their country. It was good news to hear there is some hope and to learn that our colleagues are doing some things here and there to make a difference. It’s hard to imagine what these our colleagues are going through now, handling the seminary workload and dealing with the horrible happenings back at home! It must be devastating to say the least.

Let’s continue praying for them and their beloved country.
