Christian Churches Together (CCT) is launching a search for the half-time position of Executive Director (ED), seeking applicants with a passion for working with the various member Churches and Organizations in an ecumenical setting. The ED is the primary leader of CCT, tasked with the articulating and facilitating achievement of its mission, vision, and values; including through management and fundraising. The ED is also responsible for fundraising for and management of the organization. The ED is the face of CCT to the public, and works closely with the Steering Committee and Executive Committee in the day-to-day operations as well as with the Participants of CCT, the wider ecumenical community, and the public.

Christian Churches Together (CCT) is one of the broadest fellowship’s of Christian communions in the United States, which includes Catholic, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Orthodox, Historic Black (African-American) and Historic Protestant Christian Communions & Organizations that witness together to the reconciling power of the Gospel of Jesus. CCT is currently seeking applicants with a passion for ecumenism for the half-time position of Executive Director. Previous experience in the ecumenical movement is preferred.

Background:

The Bylaws of Christian Churches Together (CCT) define the Steering Committee as the Board of Directors of the Corporation (Definitions), which exercises the defined powers of the Corporation (Section 8.4) including “hiring and terminating employees and agents, defining their duties and fixing their compensation.”  The Steering Committee has determined that its Executive Committee (Section 10.1) shall be composed of the five elected Presidents of the Church Families of CCT, and will also serve as the Personnel Committee.

Every three years, this job description shall be reviewed by the Executive Committee, which shall make recommendations to the Steering Committee for any revisions.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) is the primary leader of Christian Churches Together, tasked with articulating and facilitating the achievement of its mission, vision, and values.  Under the direction of the Steering Committee and its Executive Committee, the ED oversees all aspects of the organization to ensure efficient operation, cooperation, and communication, and the effective attainment of strategic plans and goals.  The ED is the face of CCT, working closely with the Steering Committee and its Executive Committee, the Participants of CCT, the wider ecumenical community, and the public.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Leadership:

  1. Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, careful administration of finances, productive fundraising, and consistent communications. Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.

  2. Develop, maintain, and support a strong Steering Committee; seek and build their involvement with the strategic direction.  Communicate effectively with the Steering Committee and provide, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Committee to function properly and make informed decisions.

  3. Establish and maintain relationships with various partners (communions and parachurch organizations) to strategically enhance CCT’s mission.

  4. Serve as CCT’s primary spokesperson to Participants, donors, the media, and the general public.

  5. Oversee marketing and other communications efforts. Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations--with the goal of creating a stronger brand.

  6. Proactively address challenges within the organization of CCT and in the external environment to maintain the interests and mission of CCT.

Financial Governance and Responsibility:

  1. Raise funds via Participant dues and develop other revenues necessary to support CCT’s mission.

  2. Maintain the fiscal integrity of CCT, including submitting to the Steering Committee a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

  3. Operate within the approved budget and financial policies set by the Steering Committee, and maintain a positive financial position for the organization.

Programmatic:

  1. Implement programs that carry out the mission, vision, and values of CCT.

  2. Coordinate, support, and grow the work of CCT’s Participants, expanding CCT’s work as a forum for loving relationships, learning theologically, and leading actions.

  3. Oversee and administer the development and consequent achievement of specific, measurable programmatic goals for the organization.

  4. Undertake other duties as assigned by the Steering Committee.

Qualifications:

  1. A firm grasp of and commitment to the vision, mission, process, and by-laws of Christian Churches Together

  2. Extensive experience in ecumenical meetings, dialogues, and collaboration

  3. A demonstrated ability to envision, plan, and convey the future of CCT to the Steering Committee, Participants, and donors

  4. Fundraising experience, excellent donor relations skills, and an ability to generate new revenue streams and improve financial results

  5. Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting

  6. Strong organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.

  7. A solid understanding of Christian communions and parachurch organizations within the United States

  8. A proven ability to interact with people of diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds

  9. A theological and historical understanding of the ecumenical movement and some familiarity with the current range of efforts to build the unity of the church at national and global levels

  10. A strong aptitude for verbal and written communication to effectively present and advocate for the biblical call to unity

  11. Master’s or Doctoral degree in Theology or Divinity
