We welcome ALL into our church with the love of Jesus Christ. Everyone deserves grace, so everyone is welcome at Stockbridge Presbyterian Church.
We minister to our congregation through fellowship opportunities such as Sunday School, Children’s Church, Bible study groups, Children’s Choir, Sanctuary Choir, and Prayer Warriors.
We reach out to our neighbors in this diverse community with a variety of activities, keeping Jesus in our hearts while helping to lift up those in need. We feed and clothe our neighborhood friends with Joseph’s Pantry, Goodness and Groceries, Neighborhood School Supply Drive, Christmas Baskets, and Coat Closet. Each summer, we leave the church and bring a “portable” Vacation Bible School to select neighborhoods. These ministries are funded by our generous congregation, friends of our church, and our huge, annual Community Yard Sale.
We gladly share our building with our local AA chapter, Meals on Wheels, and Boy Scouts.
In addition, our Session and congregation are always praying for more opportunities to help our neighbors. There is always more to be done.
Stockbridge Presbyterian Church exists to help our neighbors. When they have a need, we want to help.
Joseph’s Pantry, our 35-year-old food ministry, provides canned foods and dry goods to help our neighbors through rough patches. We work with Henry County DFCS to identify hungry families that need our help. Our friendly local grocery, Food Depot, gives them vouchers for perishables.
Goodness and Groceries began around 2014 when a local grade schooler wished for a school lunch each weekend, because she was going hungry once she arrived home. Now, each week our members gather to bag easy to prepare meals for around 90 children from four local schools. The bags, and a handwritten note of encouragement, go home with the kids every Friday.
Our Christmas Baskets outreach was inspired by the Goodness and Groceries ministry. The generous school administrators talk to the parents and compose a Christmas List for the kids. Our members “adopt” about two dozen of these kids and fulfill their lists, to go along with an overflowing basket of groceries.
Our newest outreach for our neighborhood friends is our outdoor Coat Closet. Donated coats, socks, gloves, and blankets are available to whomever needs them in our covered pavilion.
The new Pastor of Stockbridge Presbyterian Church will embrace our spirit of outreach and love for our diverse community. Our outreach ministries touch many lives and our new Pastor will join us in reaching even more who still need Jesus’s love. This Pastor will provide dynamic worship leadership and pastoral care for our members. By inspiring new ideas and helping our members discover and use their unique gifts, this Pastor will support the spiritual health of our congregation.
A key concern is the health of our Discipleship program. We have very few youth or children at SPC, and our Discipleship programs have suffered as a result. Children’s Sunday School and our youth program are currently idle due to lack of participation. Our new Pastor will provide fresh insight, ideas, and support in spiritual formation, as we work to improve this ministry.
Our new Pastor will be intentional in developing spiritual growth and prayer practices among the Session as well. The Session holds an extra meeting once a month for studies on discernment, prayer, and seeking God’s will for our church. We have been making some minor yet deliberate changes to our programs and worship to ensure that everything we do as leaders of SPC is focused on God. We have made an overall commitment to slowing down and listening for God’s voice at every opportunity.
Our new Pastor will arrive with a solid theological foundation and a thorough knowledge of Presbyterian polity. This foundation and knowledge, along with God’s biblical word, will influence our Pastor’s teachings. However, he or she will also search for lessons from our Lord in the everyday experiences of our congregation. This person will be competent in moderating our regular Session meetings, but also allow a free exchange of ideas and open dialogue.
Stockbridge Presbyterian Church is a family, and we will welcome our new Pastor as a vital member of it with open arms. We think of the neighborhoods that surround our church building as part of our family. Our new Pastor will build upon this positivity so that we grow spiritually closer as a congregation and spread God’s love to those in our community. Approachability and a collaborative spirit create and cultivate brand new opportunities for evangelism.
