2012 HIV/AIDS Summit Filled With Energy

More than 200 people filled McCormick’s Common Room on Saturday, December 1 for the HIV/AIDS Summit.

The day was filled with much energy and enthusiasm as Summit participants were tested for Aids, attended youth and adult workshops, witnessed a dramatic presentation by Ray of Hope Center of the Arts and were spiritually fed by Rev. Dr. Otis Moss, Senior Pastor, Trinity United Church of Christ and Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., Pastor Emeritus, Trinity Unity Church of Christ.

Leadership awards were presented to: Apostolic Faith Church Health Professional Ministry; Ray of Hope Center for the Arts; Ruth M. Rothstein CORE Center; and God Can Ministries United Church of Christ.  One of the high points of the conference was when participants released red balloons at 12 noon in collaboration with other HIV/Aids conferences throughout the state and the nation.

Sponsors of this year’s Summit include: Center for African American Ministries and Black Church Studies at McCormick Theological Seminary, Illinois African American Coalition for Prevention (ILAACP), United Church of Christ IIV and AIDS Network (UCAN), God Can Ministries United Church of Christ and Roederer Transfer and Storage Company. 

Partner organizations were: Department of Mission and Spiritual Care Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Saint Mark Lutheran Church, Center for Research on Women and Gender  at University of Illinois at Chicago, Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, HIV/AIDS Church & Community Mobilization EAGLES, Center for Clinical and Transnational Sciences at University of Illinois Chicago and Greater Open Doors Baptist Church.
