08-10-2009

Congratulations are in order for the Rev. Phil Tom (M.Div., Class of 1976), who received the Rodney T. Martin Award for his outstanding service to the Presbyterian Health Education and Welfare Association (PHEWA)  at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Big Tent Conference in June.

Tom has garnered deep respect for his work in urban ministry and social justice, having served as pastor to urban congregations and having worked with community-based housing and economic development organizations for many years. He is currently the denomination's Associate for the Small Church and Community Ministry Office, which provides resources for urban, rural and small churches and their communities.

In addition to earning his degree at McCormick, Tom has served on the seminary's Board of Trustees and was a member of the Advisory Team for the AADVENT Project.
