The Immigrant in Your Midst (2024 Brawley Lecture)

03-18-24

The Bible repeatedly calls all of us to welcome the widow, the orphan, and the immigrant in our midst. In less than two years, over 36,000 migrants have arrived in Chicago from the Southern border of the US and over 30,000 have arrived from the Ukraine. In light of this, many of us are now asking how we can best answer scripture’s call in our ministries as we seek to love and serve our new neighbors.

On Friday, April 12, the Brawley, Allen, & Zenos Lectures at McCormick Theological Seminary will unite to sponsor a full-day event on migration, ministry, and the Bible at our new location, 5416 S Cornell Avenue, Chicago IL 60615.

The event will include:

  • An informative lecture on migration in the Bible

Local practitioners and McCormick faculty will guide & participate in two unique opportunities:

  • Small group conversations on providing services & ministering to migrants

  • Panel discussion on how Scripture can inspire our ministry with migrants

Event Speakers: Dr. Francisco Lozada, Christian Theological Seminary; Rev. Dr. Linda Eastwood ;
Andrea Ortiz, Brighton Park Neighborhood Council; Rev. Lindsay Mack, Lutheran Memorial Church

Lunch will be available free of charge from Urban Pilón, a Latin American caterer who has answered the call to deliver meals to families in need.

This event is free and open to the public.  It will also be available in real-time via Zoom, including the breakout sessions with practitioners and faculty. Come and connect with our community as we collaborate toward God’s justice in the world!
