Dr. Steed Davidson Earns Tenure

10-19-2017

At its May 4-5, 2017 meeting, the McCormick Theological Seminary Board of Trustees granted tenure to Dr. Steed Davidson. Dr. Davidson came to McCormick in July 2015 as Associate Professor of Old Testament/Hebrew Bible. He previously served on the faculty at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and as a member of the Core Doctoral Faculty at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.

A native of Trinidad and Tobago, he is the author of Empire and Exile: Postcolonial Readings of Selected Texts of the Book of Jeremiah and a co-editor of Islands, Islanders and the Bible: RumiNations. Steed is also on the Editorial Board of Black Theology: An International Journal, is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, and is a Clergy Member of the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Dean Hiebert says of him, “Dr. Davidson has brought to us at McCormick a deep commitment to the church of the future and a broad view of theological education in today’s world. He is an important voice for postcolonial approaches to the Bible at McCormick and a leading international scholar in postcolonial studies. Above all, Steed contributes to our community and to the church a personal passion for justice. He makes us all a more faithful community.”
