Faculty, alumni staff national clergy training event

As in years past, McCormick Theological Seminary is playing an integral part in this year’s three-day Western National Leadership Training event, October 7-9, at the Presbyterian Church of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Campbell, Seminary President, has been invited to lead the plenary session on “Hope,” 10 a.m., October 9, as part of the event’s overarching theme, “Humor, Healing, and Hope.” The Rev. Dr. Fred Holper, Professor of Preaching at McCormick, is scheduled to host a workshop, “Witness to Life: The Healing Ministry of the Church,” which examines the re-emergence of healing as a critical practice of the Church in the 21st century.

Two graduates of McCormick’s Doctor of Ministry program are also leading workshops. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Saperstein, Executive Presbyter of the Presbytery of Plains and Peaks since 2004, is presenting “Lifting the Fog About NFOG,” which is designed to help presbyteries and individual congregations engage and evaluate the Form of Government Task Force’s report and recommendations to the 219th General Assembly. Meanwhile, in “Power and Authority in the Congregation – A Theology of Leadership” the Rev. Dr. Dave Tomlinson, Adjunct Professor at San Francisco Theological Seminary, will offer insights into developing positive, creative dynamics between parishioners, elected officers, and the pastor toward a healthy theology of leadership.
