Former New Testament professor Clinton Morrison dies at 85

McCormick Theological Seminary has received word of the death of Dr. Clinton D. Morrison Jr. on March 2, 2010, at Corvallis Manor Nursing Center in Corvallis, Oregon. He was 85.

A member of McCormick’s Class of 1948, Morrison was a respected New Testament scholar and former member of the faculty, having taught Greek and New Testament exegesis for 17 years beginning in 1951. In 1968, he was named Dean and Professor of New Testament at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, a position he held until his retirement in 1990.

His scholarly achievements include an Analytical Concordance to the Revised Standard Version of the New Testament, compiled manually over many years and published in 1979. He was also the author of the The Powers That Be, co-editor of New Testament Word Lists, and past editor of Biblical Research.

Clinton D. Morrison is survived by his wife, Jean; three children, Clint III, Greg, and Amy; and grandchildren, Elise, Theodore, and Laura Morrison.

A memorial service was held on Monday, March 8 at First Presbyterian Church of Corvallis. Memorial donations can be sent to Louisville Presbyterian Seminary.
