LPTS professor brings Obama book to hometown readers

Dr. Johnny Bernard Hill will be introducing his new book to Hyde Park readers on February 10, 6 p.m., at McCormick Theological Seminary

Dr. Johnny Bernard Hill, Assistant Professor of Theology at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, will be introducing his new book, The First Black President: Barack Obama, Race, Politics, and the American Dream (Palgrave Macmillan), to President Obama’s hometown Chicago community of Hyde Park on February 10, 6 p.m., at McCormick Theological Seminary. The event is sponsored by McCormick’s Center for African American Ministry and Black Church Studies.

The First Black President: Barack Obama is a critical reflection on the political and historical implications of an Obama administration through the lens of race relations in the United States. The book views Obama’s election as both an historical triumph and an important opportunity to intensify the struggle for equality in light of the election’s global impact. Chapters include “A Black Man in White America,” “Race, Power, and Technology in the New Millennium,” and “Why Obama’s Presidency Will Change the World.”

A graduate of Morehouse College, Hill is a scholar, community activist, and author of several articles and books on issues confronting black families, social justice, politics and reconciliation in America as well as Desmond Tutu and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
