McCormick Theological Seminary, a seminary of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is looking for a Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator is responsible for implementing a comprehensive program of communications and public relations for the seminary. This includes electronic and print publications, publicity, media relations, and special events. This person is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the communications office, and is part of and will facilitate a team of communicators across the seminary. Specific responsibilities include: generating materials for publicizing activities, events, and mission-oriented stories of the seminary and its people; facilitate effective communication of the preceding with both internal and external constituencies; preparing institutional publications (print and web-based); developing and nurturing contacts with the media; preparing materials for and assisting in the maintenance of the website; managing a production schedule; handling the placement of advertising; carrying out general writing assignments; and working with relevant vendors and consultants. Qualifications for this position include: A Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, and/or marketing and three years experience required; experience in the non-profit sector, especially higher education, highly desirable; must demonstrate excellent organizational, writing, communication and administrative skills and possess the ability to manage multiple, complex projects; must be both creative and detail oriented; experience with PCs, desktop publishing, and Microsoft Office applications; must be adept at using various forms of social media (Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc.) to facilitate and promote McCormick’s social media presence, the ability to work with limited supervision and effectively relate to a diverse group of people including faculty, administrators, students and trustees; good interpersonal skills and the ability to participate in a “team” approach are essential.
