McCormick Names 12th President

President, McCormick Theological Seminary
The Board of Trustees of McCormick Theological Seminary, one of the nation’s oldest and most influential seminaries rooted in the Presbyterian tradition, has named Rev. Dr. Maisha I. Handy its 12th President.
The Chicago native — a recognized and accomplished theologian, administrator, and educator — will assume her new position as the institution’s first African American president and second female leader on September 3. This appointment follows her 24-year career at Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Ga., where Dr. Handy served most recently as interim president and professor of religion and education of the historic institution.
Dr. Handy succeeds David R. Crawford, who retired on June 30, 2024, after serving as the seminary’s president since 2017. Mr. Crawford is credited with successfully leading McCormick through the pandemic and a transformational period in its history.
Dr. Annette Huizenga, McCormick’s current interim dean of faculty, is also serving as acting president until Dr. Handy’s first day on September 3, 2024

La Junta Directiva del Seminario Teológico McCormick, uno de los seminarios más antiguos e influyentes del país arraigado en la tradición presbiteriana, ha nombrado a la Rev. Dra. Maisha I. Handy como su duodécima presidenta.
La nativa de Chicago, una teóloga, administradora y educadora reconocida y consumada, asumirá su nuevo puesto como primera presidenta afroamericana y segunda mujer líder de la institución el 3 de septiembre. Este nombramiento sigue a su carrera de 24 años en el Centro Teológico Interdenominacional (ITC) en Atlanta, Ga., donde la Dr. Handy se desempeñó recientemente como presidente interino y profesora de religión y educación de la histórica institución.
La Dr. Handy sucede a David R. Crawford, quien se jubiló el 30 de junio de 2024, después de servir como presidente del seminario desde 2017. Al Sr. Crawford se le atribuye haber dirigido exitosamente a McCormick a través de la pandemia y un período de transformación en la historia de esta institucion.
Dr. Annette Huizenga, actual decana interina de la facultad de McCormick, también se desempeñará como presidenta interina hasta el primer día de la Dr. Handy el 3 de septiembre de 2024.
