Hiker Missing in Colorado

On October 3, alumnus James B. Nelson began what was supposed to be a five day hike of the Mount of Holy Cross near Vail, Colorado. When he did not return on October 8, his fiance notified local authorities. The Colorado National Guard began a search for him over the weekend but found no sign of him. 

James, 31, is an experienced hiker and had proper gear and supplies with him. According to authorities, he was not carrying a cell phone. 

James currently serves the ELCA as Director for Official Roster Records Office.   

An aerial search of the mountain began Monday, October 11.
