Dr. Glenn R. Palmberg (D.Min. 1984) retired as president of the Evangelical Covenant Church effective August 31, 2008.

Palmberg served for ten years as President of the Evangelical Covenant Church, a Chicago-headquartered, multi‐ethnic denomination of 800 congregations in the United States and Canada with ministries on five continents. The church also owns or controls North Park University, Swedish Covenant Hospital and a number of Covenant retirement facilities. Under Dr. Palmberg’s leadership, the denomination became the fastest growing Protestant denomination in the United States. Palmberg is known for his commitment to pastoral care and evangelism as well as a strong commitment to social justice.

In an interview in which he contemplated his plans for the future Palmberg said, “I would like to spend the years of service I have left doing less travel and focus my attention on issues about which I have a lot of passion, especially hunger and poverty.”

In 2008 Dr. Palmberg was awarded the Annual Gutenberg Award of the Chicago Bible Society.
