This year’s theme focuses on Balancing Your Ministry.
McCormick Theological Seminary’s Women’s Urban Ministry Network will host its third annual breakfast on World Community Day, Friday, November 2. The breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Common Room of McCormick Theological Seminary, 5460 S. University Avenue in Chicago.
This year’s theme “Don’t Be Weary: Finding Balance for Your Ministry,” will be addressed by the keynoter Dr. C. Vanessa White, Assistant Professor of Spirituality at Catholic Theological Union. She is an experienced workshop presenter, retreat facilitator, spiritual director, and teacher who lectures nationally on Christian spirituality, women’s spirituality, and other issues including Black Presence in the Bible.
Her publications include the co-edited book Songs of the Heart and Meditations of the Soul – a book of prayers. She has articles in the National Religious Vocation Conference journal – Horizons, New Theology Review, and U.S. Catholic Magazine. She was invited to contribute to the CNN series - Black in America. Her essay on Black Catholics, “Authentically Black and Truly Catholic,” can be viewed on CNN.com
“Women are actively engaged in urban ministry as pastors, agency leaders, social workers, advocates for the oppressed, entrepreneurs and healers. We are faithful, tenacious promoters of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many work with limited recognition, others serve the church on nights and weekends (working weekdays in other jobs). Almost all juggle multiple responsibilities for home and family. Finding spiritual balance is a profound need for us. We look forward to this annual opportunity to share with other women in prayer and refreshment,” said Rev. Dr. Deborah Kapp, Women’s Urban Ministry Network Director and McCormick’s Edward F. and Phyllis K. Campbell Professor of Urban Ministry/Faculty Director of Assessment.
Kapp continued, “The Women’s Urban Ministry Network is a program of McCormick Theological Seminary. It is an ecumenical gathering of women who offer mutual support and encouragement to one another as we build community, make justice, promote human health and wholeness, and innovate new ways of being church.”
