McCormick Days 2014: You don’t want to miss this!

Each year McCormick Theological Seminary celebrates McCormick Days: an annual gathering honoring the 50 year golden, and 25 year silver alumni. McCormick Days also lifts up the milestone alumni as well: those who are celebrating their 20th, 15th, 10th, and 5th year graduation celebrations. Each year’s program is organized around a different theme; last year’s theme revolved around ethics and the work of Dr. Reggie Williams. This year we are celebrating the spirit and ministry of Rev. Dr. Lib Caldwell, Professor Emeritus of Pastoral Theology. Dr. Caldwell’s work has always focused on pastoral theology, religious education, radical inclusion for all God’s children at the table, and multiple learning styles., to name a few.

The two-day celebration will consist of workshops, lectures, and interactive opportunities for students and alumni. The first day will revolve around the keynote speaker, Dr. Caldwell, and three other speakers, all hand picked by Dr. Caldwell: Rodger Nishioka of Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA, Dr. Jack Seymour from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and Jenny Hereth, professional artist and Professor of Art at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL.

The second day will involve artist workshops by four of Dr. Caldwell’s former students all focusing on different sections of the selected Scripture: Rev. Shawna Bowman, Revs. Meghan Cochran and Alex Wirth, and Sergio Centeno will offer workshops revolving around “Do Justice,” “Faithful Love,” and “Walk Humbly,” respectively. All four artists-in-residence utilize artwork in their ministry at their respective worshipping communities.

We will also be celebrating our two Distinguished Alumni: Rev. Dr. Marshall Hatch who will be preaching during opening worship on October 23, and Ms. Carol Wehrheim who will be speaking at the annual alumni luncheon on the same day. Rev. Dr. Marshall Hatch is known for his investment in faith-led community outreach programs in the City of Chicago, including affordable housing projects, a substance abuse task force, and a Cook County Jail visitation program. Ruling Elder Carol Wehrheim has been deeply involved in Christian education and social justice programming, authoring curricula on gun violence and stewardship guides. Finally, McCormick Days is a time where the Alumni Council gathers together to vote on new officers. This happens right before McCormick Days and is followed up with a meeting just before closing worship for all alumni to attend.
