Description of Vienna Presbyterian Church
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The primary goal of this position is to work collaboratively with the Lead Pastor to develop meaningful, creative worship experiences in both Traditional and Contemporary settings, including special services throughout the year; to initiate and oversee the development of comprehensive, relevant discipleship ministry for adults through various formats.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES; ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Worship Planning
· Work with the Lead Pastor to develop worship opportunities over the course of the year.
· Work with the Lead Pastor and Session to assess the timeliness of worship and make recommendations as needed.
· Create opportunities for special worship services beyond Sunday mornings.
· Lead the Worship Planning team.
· Ensure that bulletin drafts are accurate before publication.
· Provide oversight to all music ministries.
· Oversee and manage the team responsible for all logistics that support worship, including communion preparation, sanctuary décor, ushers, etc.
· Oversee and manage recruitment and training of all lay worship support teams including : communion preparation, ushers, and liturgists.
· Directly supervise the Traditional Worship Director and the Contemporary Worship Director.
Preaching and Leadership
As a key part of the pastoral team, share in the implementation of the church’s mission. Be a vital part of calling people to faith, equipping adults for discipleship, and providing ministry that meets people where they are, sustaining them in their faith journeys, and preparing them for ministry in the world.
Participate in worship leadership as liturgist and preacher. Lead additional worship services, weddings, and funerals, as needed.
Work collaboratively with all pastoral staff.
Lead, supervise, equip, and encourage all direct reports and others in the worship and adult discipleship department.
Discipleship of Adults
· Establish an overall direction for the discipleship of adults that supports the mission of the church, meets the emergent needs of the congregation and community, and encourages all adults to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and develop vibrant lives of faith.
· Supervise and collaborate with the Life Group & Education Director to provide meaningful adult discipleship opportunities.
· Provide baptism counseling to adults expressing interest in baptism.
· Teach classes and/or lead groups that foster discipleship and leadership development in order to equip and encourage lay leaders who will then go on to lead classes of their own.
· Provide digital and other content that can help to disciple and encourage those who are not interested in a Life Group or class or who are out of the area and cannot participate in-person.
· Serve as the lead teacher and primary resource for either the Men’s Ministry or the Women’s Ministry.
· Seek out and vet all curriculum for adults to ensure that it is a faithful representation of the Gospel and adheres to the basic tenets of the Reformed tradition.
