The Larchmont Avenue Church (a 500-member church) is seeking a youth pastor. We are a Presbyterian community church in southern Westchester County, New York, within easy reach of New York City. We're an active, intellectually engaged multi-generational congregation. Our 100 year old church is a dynamic house of worship that embraces our traditions while working towards progressive programs that serve all ages. We are seeking an associate pastor to lead the church’s Christian Education and Youth Ministry programs, including Sunday School and middle school/high school weekly evening fellowship. In addition, the associate pastor will help lead the celebration of worship with joy and enthusiasm as well as assist the senior pastor in pastoral care, including counseling and visitation. The candidate should be open-minded, articulate, confident, skilled in working cooperatively, technologically savvy and inspired by the work of creating a deeply meaningful, visible and creative youth ministry that upholds the spiritual lives of today’s youth.

We are hopeful that the Associate Pastor will play a key role in each of these areas both through their leadership of LAC’s children’s education and youth ministry programs, and just as importantly, as a leader in worship and pastoral care. Young families and youth are a critical facet of any healthy congregation – indeed, our Session has committed to fund this Associate Pastor position for at least three years (funds will come from the endowment if annual revenue is unable to support it). Our youth inspire us in worship and in community service and enrich our fellowship opportunities. Young families provide energy and vitality to a faith family and to our worship experience. Through these efforts, we are hopeful that the Associate Pastor will be instrumental in continuing to invigorate the vitality of this community of faith we so desire.

The Associate Pastor should be a person whose Christian conviction, faith and vocation for ministry are warmly evident and purposeful.  They should be someone with compassion, patience and the ability to inspire the Christian witness of families, children and youth in a community which may struggle to make church a priority or find time for spirituality.  The Associate Pastor will be encouraged to develop their ministry in innovative ways.  They should have the ability to generate enthusiasm among members, and in particular the youth, to be involved in children's and youth ministry.

Youth ministry is foundational to our church and our purpose as Christians. We want to fully integrate all ages, especially youth, into the life of our church. All ages have much to learn from each other through worshiping, learning, and serving together.

We seek to deepen our connections to one another and our community. We want to be welcoming to all, a haven in times of need, and a safe place to share our humanity in times of both celebration and loss.Worship and learning are foundations of our connection with the Spirit and one another. We want to be inspired and challenged. We seek dynamic study for all ages to help us understand God’s word and today’s issues. We have a reverence for tradition while we invite innovation, especially to engage across generations and the diverse community we desire.

We seek deep connections through mission and discipleship with our community and the wider world. Through service, we strengthen our faith and the bonds within our faith.

Our calling as Disciples of Christ is centered around service to others, and we value our work with our mission partners, including the Community Resource Center and the STEM Alliance. LAC supports local food pantries (HOPE and Larchmont/Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force), Heifer International, and several other community organizations. The Midnight Run began in 1992, in cooperation with Larchmont Temple, bringing meals and clothing to the homeless in New York City. Youth groups regularly volunteer with these efforts and also at the nearby Coachman Family Center for the homeless.  With the creation of our Eco Task Force, we are positioned to become a leader within the community on sustainability efforts. Many community organizations use our LAC facilities to host their meetings/events including AA and Al-Anon, Larchmont Symphonia, and Westchester Children’s Choir.

We aim to continue our legacy of mission and discipleship and to become a more welcoming spiritual home. There are emergent needs of young families, the elderly and youth within the congregation, the immediate area of Mamaroneck/Larchmont and communities further afield. The Associate Pastor will build upon existing opportunities to support the spiritual growth of our youth through meaningful learning opportunities and increasingly involve them in community mission work.  This will promote intergenerational connections within and outside the congregation.
