The national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), based in Louisville, Kentucky, serve and work with mid-councils, congregations and partner organizations to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ in the World. The work at the Presbyterian Center is carried out by approximately 400 staff members in several national entities: Office of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Investment and Loan, Presbyterian Mission Agency, Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Presbyterian Women and the Administrative Services Group.

Purpose of the Position:

Develops annual communications plan, creates and oversees PHS communications in all media, fosters communications collaborations with PC(USA) entities and PHS staff and volunteers, and contributes to outreach efforts.

Job Skills / Requirements

  • Develops and oversees implementation of annual communications plan. Works with development staff to ensure that annual communications and development plans work in concert to build support for PHS.

  • Develops themes and content for various electronic, web, video, print, and social media communications and contributes to and oversees the creation and publication of this content. Administers PHS website and works with outside vendor(s) as needed on backend updates and design changes. Convenes PHS Communications Task Force meetings.

  • Serves as public relations liaison with the media and prepares press releases.

  • Identifies and fosters communications collaborations with OGA Louisville staff and other PC(USA) national agencies and staff; PHS researchers, volunteers, and supporters; and congregations and mid councils. Serves on the OGA Communication Team and 6 Comm and assists with OGA communications as requested.

  • Assists with PHS grant writing and implementation of grant projects, particularly as they relate to communicating intent and results.

  • Assists with coordination of branding initiatives and message consistency.

  • Contributes to PHS public outreach, nationally and regionally.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or the Office of the General Assembly.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree with coursework or training in communications, journalism, and/or public relations.

Skills, experience and competencies:

Three to five years of professional communications experience that includes electronic, print, video, and social media sectors. Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Ability to work collaboratively, anticipate needs, and provide resourceful, creative solutions. Demonstrated commitment to value differences and the benefits to be derived from working with a broad range of people. Ability to effectively manage interpersonal relationships. Fluency in English. Able to use current technology and equipment.

Sensory or Physical Requirements:

Sight and hearing required. Ability to use the computer for extended periods of time. Ability to communicate via telephone and via Zoom and other computer technologies. Ability to travel as scheduled.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with historical research and writing and with archives or special collections work. Fluency in Spanish, Korean, or another language.
