Burke Presbyterian Church (BPC), located in suburban Northern Virginia, less than 20 miles west of Washington, DC, is seeking a full-time Senior Pastor/Head of Staff to help provide leadership and pastoral care for our 700-member congregation, and to educate, challenge and inspire us in our faith.
BPC is an open, dynamic, intellectual congregation, made up of leaders and thoughtful decision makers. We see ourselves as connected to the past, but not beholden to it, and from progressive to conservative, we respect each other’s viewpoints. We find joy in serving the underserved, and we are in search of pastoral leadership that will augment our deep care and broad welcome, and that will help us translate energy into action.
We have vibrant programs for all ages internally, and strong local and international mission partnerships focusing on hunger, housing, health, and education. The congregation has recently been energized around social justice and non-partisan political activism.
The Head of Staff will provide strategic leadership for these and other activities, in addition to leading worship, preaching, and providing pastoral care. They will be an able delegator. They will mentor the associate pastor(s), direct and supervise staff, moderate Session, and will organize the work of the church, aligning teams in a common vision and fostering a culture of stewardship.
Beyond BPC, the Senior Pastor will be a colleague in ministry in the larger PC(USA), and will encourage radical hospitality, deep friendship, and vital engagement in and beyond BPC including in the ecumenical and interfaith community. They will have at least 5 years experience in ordained ministry.
