First Congregational Church of Onekama is nestled in the midst of God's glory between a great lake and a national forest in Northwest Michigan.
Ministry Description:
We are a dynamic church in the small recreational community of Onekama Michigan. We are surrounded by natural beauty, nestled along Lake Michigan and Portage Lake, around which the town has developed. We have a significant cadre of retired seniors who provide their wisdom, talents and experiences to the church and community. Members bring a diverse Christian theology to our shared worship. The church, relatively small in size, with 77 members, conducts services and celebrations in a well-maintained classical church. While small, we have stable financial resources. Attendance at the church almost doubles during the summer with Onekama's summer residents, who freely comment that we are a welcoming place where you can feel God's presence. Church services are joyful and engaging. Music is important to members and there is a strong sense of fellowship into which all are welcome. We incorporate the Christian calendar and the Common Lectionary and through readings, conversations and sermons, strengthen the understanding of the application of Christian values in today's world. We seek a Pastor who has sound Bible knowledge, can relate scripture to daily life, is compassionate and cares for the lives of others, facilitates our fellowship, supports the initiatives of others and can strengthen and advance who we are as a church community. We also would benefit from someone who could guide us in ways to engage young families and help us provide services that address the needs of the elderly. We welcome candidates early in their careers, those in mid-career who are looking for a change and those who have retired and want to join a dynamic congregation in retirement. We are prepared to consider 3/4 part time for experienced pastors or full-time applicants who may be in the early stages of their careers. We will also consider co-career applicants.
Compensation and Housing:
Minimum Effective Salary: $57,000
