GENERAL SUMMARY:

McCormick Theological Seminary seeks to employ a Solidarity Building Initiative (SBI) program coordinator with at least 3 -5 years of experience with project management and experience with pilot programs.  We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, passionate and committed to the mission and vision of our Solidarity Building Initiative for Liberative Carceral Education. The SBI Program Coordinator will work as the assistant to the SBI Program Director and work closely with the Assistant to the Vice President of Community Engagement and Alumni Relationships. The Program Coordinator will report to and work closely with the Program Director to strength internal departmental relationships and develop meaningful relationships with individuals and communities most impacted the criminal legal system and working alongside impacted populations in efforts to create a more just society where all people flourish and live in dignity.

This is an 11 month 29-hour per week temporary position, with the possibility for renewal at the end of the contract. Start date is January 15, 2021- December 20, 2021. We especially encourage applications from qualified candidates who support prison abolition and criminal justice reform work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate administrative responsibilities across all program pillars, such as event logistics for public facing programs, processing check request, convening meetings with community partners, etc.

  • Create and support project implementation that includes timelines, priorities, and strategies as necessary based on project portfolio.

  • Serve as the administer for SBI’s involvement with Community Partners in Dialogue—CCJ.

  • Develop and manage SBI alumni and volunteer database.

  • Support efforts to develop policies and procedures manual and internal trainings.

  • Manage and organize the Google Drive and program calendars.

  • Conduct research for SBI's efforts to create a re-entry database and referral system.

  • Support content development for SBI’s social media and website presence.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience with project management. Experience working on pilot programs is preferred.

  • Ability to work with broad and inclusive demographics in professional environments, with people from varying social identities, working in teams to collectively achieve success.

  • Ability to work in an environment/team in which all details are not defined; building a new program from the ground up.

  • Ability to think creatively, “outside of the box,” and analytically process/reflect about tasks and deliverables in new ways.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to be organized, maintain a calendar, keep track of individual and shared tasks, and communicate effectively about work.

  • Ability to learn and navigate virtual platforms and the like.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, often independently, including some nights and weekends.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience working with formerly and currently incarcerated individuals, preferred.

  • Experience working with clergy, congregations, institutions and community partners. preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Must have basic competency using Microsoft Office and Google Docs applications for word processing, spreadsheet utilization and presentations (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive) on desktop and mobile platforms.

  • Must possess basic competency using email and electronic calendar applications (e.g., MS Outlook, Gmail, or Google Calendar).

  • Must be comfortable learning and using new software systems on desktop computers and mobile phones.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and adherence to deadlines.

  • Able to communicate effectively with managers, employees, and community partners.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently when necessary.

  • All employees shall avoid even the appearance of conflict of interest, special interest or any other inappropriate conduct.

  • Awareness of the Seminary’s multi-cultural environment with the ability to distinguish diverse characteristics and to work accordingly.

  • All employees are required to assist, where needed, at Seminary-wide events.
