Song, dance, and essays spread the message, "Faith has power!"
This year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Worship Service had everyone jumping out of their chairs in praise. The annual intergenerational service began with the youthful voices of the Imani Ya Watume Choir from Trinity United Church of Christ and flowing dance moves of the Progressive Community Center Liturgical Dance Ministry. Simone Janae Williams, daughter of McCormick’s Ethics Professor Reggie Williams, eloquently shared her essay, “No Longer Silent.” Psalmist Sydne C. Evans presented an unforgettable rendition of If I Can Help Somebody.
The sermon, delivered by Rev. Dr. Carolyn Ann Knight, Founder and President of Can Do! Ministries, had everyone answering the question, “If not now, when?” Her scriptural text was Daniel 3, the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. In a rhythmic voice, Rev. Knight reminded the audience of the power of faith.
For the second consecutive year, the service was held at Progressive Community Center, the People’s Church. The Church’s spiritual leader is Rev. Dr. B. Herbert Martin, a McCormick alum. It was a memorable evening for all who attended the service and all who participated in the service.
