Over a three-year period, supported by a grant from the Lily Endowment, McCormick Theological Seminary’s HeartWork Rising Trauma Healing Initiative will engage in institution-wide learning and practices in order to equip clergy and congregations to respond to the communal and systemic nature of trauma.

POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the communications specialist is to work with McCormick Theological Seminary’s Director of Marketing and Communications to create and implement a marketing and communications strategy for the Trauma Healing Initiative.  The ideal candidate will have experience working with non-profit organizations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing and Strategy

  • Collaborate with the THI Director and other Marketing & Communications (MARCOM) staff to ensure brand consistency.

  • Brainstorm ways to innovate THI’s communication and marketing efforts in collaboration with MTS Marcom

  • Develop branding for THI consistent with McCormick Theological Seminary’s current branding.

Communications

  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with our students, alumni, faculty, staff and community at large.

  • Collaborate with MARCOM, photographers/videographers to produce THI media

  • Create and organize scripts for events, video pages, social media, etc. 

  • Provide THI updates to MTS newsletter, monthly Communication Circle meeting

  • Submit and maintain postings to MTS website content (events, video pages, etc.).

  • Submit event details to McCormick Community Calendar and coordinate social media engagement

  • Create registration and manage AV logistics for in-person and virtual THI events

  • Provide event coordination support (before, during, and after) as needed.

  • Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of the Trauma Healing Initiative’s marketing and communications programs/services.

  • Perform additional communications duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND SKILLS

  • A bachelor’s degree required

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in marketing and communications strategy development

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Fluency in social media, communications technology, and content writing experience for all media platforms.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills; ability to manage complex projects and multiple tasks. 

  • Knowledge of Constant Contact

  • Knowledge and fluency in graphic design and Adobe platforms are required

  • The ability to work with limited supervision and effectively relate to diverse groups of people, including faculty, administration, students, alumni/ae, trustees, church, denominational, ecumenical and interfaith lay, and clergy leaders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, must be computer literate and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or mac OS programs. 

  • Awareness of the Seminary’s multi-cultural environment and capacity to distinguish the communications strategies necessary to reach a diverse environment

Type of work environment associated with the job:

  • This position works in a clean, well-lit area.  This position is not susceptible to job hazards; however, due to routine operation/use of computers, normal rest brakes may be required. 

  • This position is hybrid and may require local travel

  • Prolonged use of computer, sitting for up to 8 hours
